Founder
Robert co-founded what is now Lipman Burgon, following the management buyout of Investec Bank’s Australian wealth management business. He led the firm as Chief Executive before moving to Executive Chairman and, subsequently, to Non-Executive Chairman.
Regarded as one of Australia’s leading financial advisers, Robert had earlier founded the wealth management practices of Towers Perrin, Ord Minnett and Investec Bank (Australia). Over a career advising many of Australia’s leading corporate executives, public company directors and prominent families, he became known for a commitment to his clients that was absolute, and for a steadfast focus on helping them achieve their individual, family and business goals.
The values he instilled remain at the centre of the firm’s character: Advice shaped only by the clients’ interests, genuine partnership with clients and a long-term view of what wealth can achieve for families. As founding chairman of the firm’s Investment Committee, he set the disciplined, governance-led approach to investing that continues to define the firm today.
Robert remains a trusted friend of the firm, including the employees he worked alongside and mentored, and the partners with whom he worked so closely.
